PRIDE -class 2

PRIDE class 2 was last Saturday but I have not been able to post until now. Class 2 was very good. We had a foster mom come to speak to us about children that have suffered sexual abuse. Even though this type of abuse is so completely heart wrenching and hard to hear the details of it was very informational. The foster mom allowed you to see the views from the child and the views from the foster mom.

We also covered discipline and punishment. The counselor that led this portion of the class was very nice but oh how boring he was. He simply read the information to us. Literally. I was glad when this portion was over because quite frankly -I could have easily read it myself and already had!

Everyone came back to class 2 except for two women who where looking to adopt and another lady that was interested in fostering. So as of class 2 we are the only couple out of the entire class of about 12 couples and one single parent that are choosing the foster route. This is saddening to me. We are going to be licensed as Foster to Adopt just in case the Lord brings a child into our lives that he intends to be with us forever. However, Kenny and I really hope to be those foster parents that have tons of pictures hanging on the walls and can tell you we have fostered 131 kids or more one day:)

This foster mom that came to speak today shared that each foster child or sibling group that comes to stay with her she take to have a 10x13 photo made of and hangs in the foster room. After a child leaves, their picture remains on the wall. When the new child is placed with her she then tells the new child of all the children that have stayed safe in the room before them. The foster mom said that some of the kids start to speak of the kids in the photos as though they really know them! How sweet. I think this is a wonderful idea.....I will have to keep this in mind.
