Carrot Top

So, Carrot Top has been with us since May 2. He is such a sweet, shy little boy. He has adjusted well and took very quickly to my husband. We was a little more stand offish from time to time with me but not anymore.

Poor little thing has 3 front teeth up top missing and one that is broken off to almost a nub because of a severe cavity. The first thing I did was make a dentist appointment for him. He needs the broken tooth up top extracted and four crowns. The dentist office referred him to another office so that he can be sedated for the dental work. The appointment is in a few weeks.

When he first came he did not talk much at all. He has really opened up so much over these few weeks. Not that we can really understand him anymore than before but he's talking more. He will repeat you when you tell him to but if he is trying to tell you something many times we are at a loss and have to have him go show us what he is talking about. At that point we then work with him to say what he is wanting at that time. We are working on getting speech services....

His situation is really sad. He has been placed previously with a grandma who did not protect him from his mother and follow the courts instructions. The mother fled with him and the police had been looking for her and the child. Mom was pulled over by the police with the child in the car with her along with a guy. The guy could not tell the social worker the child's name....stated that he did not know the child's name. Sad. Carrot Top was asleep in his car seat. The social worker had to wake him up. The social workers words were that "Carrot Top freaked out when he woke up and kept freaking out for a while".

Carrot Top only had a few times that he whimpered the night that he came. He broke down a couple of times over the next few days and that was he. He looked at me twice and said, "you not momma" I said no..... I'm Nana.

He has had two visits with his Mom. Both of which left him extremely upset to the point he cried off and on all evening. Spending more time crying than not crying. After the day he sees her and maybe for a little bit the next day he never talks about her or anyone else in his family for that matter. However, I do tell him every night when we rock that his mom loves him.

WELLLLL, I had not heard anything about a visit for this week so I emailed the new case worker to ask. She replied that she had not been able to schedule a visit. SOOOOO, I called the county jail in the county his mom lives and and sure enough......she's a current inmate AGAIN.
